Why Study in Sweden?
Sweden is known for research-driven universities, collaborative teaching and a large number of English-taught master’s programmes. Non-EU/EEA students pay tuition, but many universities offer scholarships, and applications run through a central national portal.
Why Choose Sweden?
Strong international reputation in engineering, technology, sustainability and design
Many English-taught master’s programmes
Collaborative, research-oriented learning culture
Eligible graduates can apply for a permit extension to look for work
Getting Started
Admission Requirements
- Recognised bachelor’s degree (for master’s) with the programme’s subject prerequisites
- English-language evidence such as IELTS or TOEFL, based on the programme
- Valid passport, transcripts and programme-specific documents
- Some programmes may require a CV, motivation letter, references or portfolio
Student Visa
Visa Information
- Non-EU/EEA students need a residence permit for studies from the Swedish Migration Agency.
- Applicants normally need an admission offer and evidence that the tuition payment has been made as required.
- Applicants must show sufficient funds for living costs and meet the insurance requirements.
- Processing times vary, so the permit application should be started as soon as the offer is received.
Cost of Living
A practical planning range is around SEK 10,000–12,000 per month, depending on the city and accommodation. Stockholm and other major cities tend to be more expensive, and student housing can be limited.
Work Opportunities
Students with a Swedish residence permit for studies are generally allowed to work without a fixed weekly-hour limit, but studies must remain the main priority and the permit conditions continue to apply.
Post-Study Opportunities
After graduation, eligible students can generally apply for a residence permit extension of up to 12 months to look for work or explore starting a business, subject to the rules in force at the time.
